Cumbernauld is in general a cycle friendly area as you can use the public pathways throughout the town. Getting to the town centre can test your stamina as it sits at the top of a hill.

For longer runs there is a cycle path which runs from Cumbernauld all the way into Glasgow and beyond. If you have the energy and the time to spend then getting to Irvine isn't a particular problem via Paisley and Kilbirnie.

Cumbernauld is also only a few miles away from the Forth and Clyde canal. You can join at Twechar, Kilsyth or Dullatur and then have a flat run all the way west to Bowling and further or east to Edinburgh.

A few routes start from Broadwood Loch.

A trip down to Airdrie will let you join the National Cycle Network Glasgow to Edinburgh route on the Airdrie to Bathgate Hillend Loch railway path.
